The fastest five furlongs of Glorious Goodwood demand one thing above all else — raw speed under pressure. With proven Group performers, hardened sprinters and dangerous outsiders converging on the Sussex Downs, only the strongest finishers will survive one of the season's fiercest speed tests.
LLaMa's predicted finish — the four horses to keep on the radar. Form, figures and a verdict apiece below.

Every horse, every angle. Ratings, pedigree, jockey bookings and LLaMa's capsule note — or the API spotlight when the editor hasn't overlaid their own take.
The case for Night Raider is straightforward enough on paper: OR 112 is the joint-top rating in the field, K. R. Burke is operating at a 23% strike rate over the last 30 days (19/83), James Doyle is at 17% (10/59), and the market has been steaming — a strict-majority move with no drifters is a meaningful signal in a race of this size. Back-to-back wins two and three starts back, with course-and-distance experience, complete the picture. The model consensus across all three independent lenses and Mr Fox agree: this is the horse the data points to. The caveats are real, though. Stall 13 of 15 is not ideal around Goodwood's idiosyncratic five furlongs, where position and early cover matter enormously. Forty-five days off the track introduces a fitness unknown, and carrying 133 lb — the joint-highest burden in the field — asks a lot. The word 'anchor' here means this is still the most complete package of evidence, not that it is certainty; back him, but keep the liability in proportion to those doubts.
Form figures: 50-110
Night Raider landed back-to-back wins two and three starts back and has experience of today's distance and going, giving him a solid profile as the top-rated runner here. Returning after 45 days off is the one query, but 133 lb from stall 13 is the burden he must shoulder.
OR 109 gives American Affair a respectable rating in mid-field of this race. Jim Goldie is a shrewd operator who doesn't run horses in Group 2 sprints without reason. But no automated signals fire at all — no hot trainer, no hot jockey, no course form, no market move — and the form figures end in two unplaced efforts. Paul Mulrennan is an experienced rider but is not among the in-form jockeys in this race by recent statistics. In the absence of any signal, OPPOSE at 10/1.
Form figures: 1-0206
OR 109, with back-to-back wins four and five starts back giving him a legitimate Group-form profile. Jamie Spencer from stall 1 is a tactical draw but Spencer is not among the in-form jockeys in this race by recent numbers. Third last time out after those wins is a slight regression, and no story signals fire at all from the automated model — which at 6/1 means the price does not fully compensate for the lack of current-form conviction. A runner to watch if he finds his earlier level, but not the primary selection here.
Form figures: -11453
Jakajaro was third last time out after back-to-back wins four and five starts back, so his form profile is mixed; he has run over today's trip and going, and 13 days between runs suggests he arrives fresh, though 130 lb is a stern burden to overcome.
OR 107, with a prior course win and Jason Hart at 20% SR over the last 30 days (23/113). The course form matters at Goodwood. However, the form figures read 0-4903 — winless in five starts — and stall 14 from 130 lb is not the configuration you want. Mr Fox rates him the value alternative and the course experience is real, but the data doesn't make a compelling case to back him ahead of Aspect Island at similar or shorter odds.
Form figures: 0-4903
Winless in his last five starts, though a third last time out shows a spark of form, with experience over today's distance and going working in his favour; yet to convert, and the 130 lb burden from stall 14 adds to his task.
Three consecutive wins heading into a Group 2 is not a profile you dismiss at 40/1, however modest the form levels appear. The spotlight describes this gelding as 'unexposed and open to improvement' — four wins from his last five starts, with the sequence of 1-7-1-1-1 showing one blip before three straight victories. Fredrik Reuterskiold is a Swedish handler whose runners in British Pattern company are rare enough that the market simply doesn't know how to price the horse, and that ignorance can translate into value when the form underneath is this consistent. He draws stall 2 — almost ideal for Goodwood's five furlongs — which means he will get a clean run whatever the early pace looks like, either pressing from the front or tucking in off a fast-moving lead. The risk is obvious: we have no SR, RPR or TS data to work with, and stepping from whatever he has been winning to Group 2 is a large ask. But at 40/1, the 'if it goes off' case is entirely legitimate: Elione Chaves stays on the horse, the draw is perfect, and the form sequence is loud. A place would be a handsome return.
Form figures: 1-7111
Unexposed and open to improvement, this gelding has been in scintillating recent form — a winner in four of his last five starts, including three consecutive victories, and returns fresh on 19 days' rest carrying 130 lb from stall two.
Three consecutive placed efforts (form reads 233 in recent starts) is a consistent profile, and Colin Keane at 20% SR (22/110) is a live riding booking. The problem is fundamental: OR 96 is the lowest rated horse worth discussing in a race topped by OR 112 runners, and 130 lb at that rating in a Group 2 is a structural mismatch. Trainer David Loughnane's 20% rate is fine but not enough to overcome the class deficit. Oppose at 18/1.
Form figures: 271332
Ranked 12 of 15 on our figures, Partisan Hero faces a stiff ask at the weights carrying 130 lb from stall 8, and a speed rating of 94 leaves him well below the top end of this field; second last time out is a positive, though, and he has experience over today's trip and going.
Rumstar is the obvious place insurance here: won last time out, has course-and-distance form, and draws stall 3 which puts him ideally placed to dictate or track the early pace on a track where getting handy early is half the battle. OR 110 is just two pounds off the top of the market and Rob Hornby has a clear tactical advantage from that low draw. Jonathan Portman's 16% strike rate (5/31) over the last month is modest, but this horse arrives in the freshest winning form of any serious contender. The 130 lb weight is the same burden carried by Jakajaro and Jm Jungle, so there is no disadvantage there. If Night Raider underperforms after his break, or simply cannot pick his way through from stall 13, Rumstar is already in the right place doing the right job. He may also be the one that sets the pace that collapses the field — in which case he is well capable of staying on to claim a place at a starting price of 9/2.
Form figures: 60-201
Rumstar arrives on the back of a win last time out and has run over today's trip and going, giving him solid claims here; carrying 130 lb from stall three is the challenge he must overcome.
Joint-top rated at OR 112 and Oisin Murphy aboard at 19% SR (27/144) are the positives. The problem is the form sequence: a win five starts back, then two unplaced efforts and two mid-field finishes across her last four runs. At eight years old, the risk of permanent regression is real. The tongue-tie (tb) may be a management tool rather than a performance trigger. Murphy's booking keeps her from being dismissed entirely, but the recent form figures make OPPOSE the honest call at 11/1.
Form figures: 1-0079
Asfoora arrives here with distance-and-going experience in her favour, and her win five starts back gives her a proven winning thread to build on; the worry is that her last four runs have yielded two unplaced efforts and two mid-field finishes, so she needs to rediscover that form sharply.
OR 99 and ranked 14th of 15 in the field. A sixth-place finish on one of five starts and a fifth last time out confirm there is no current-form argument to make. Edward Bethell is a capable trainer at 16% SR (10/61) and Daniel Tudhope is a reliable jockey, but this horse needs a step back in class to show her better profile. Oppose at 22/1 — the market is already almost right.
Form figures: -61505
Azure Angel has managed just one win in her last five starts, with a fifth last time out and largely undistinguished efforts otherwise, and ranked 14th of 15 on our figures she faces a stiff task here — though she has run over today's trip and going before, and returns on a reasonable 20-day break.
OR 107 (notably the racecard reads 113 per spotlight — a discrepancy worth noting) and Harry Eustace at 21% SR (6/29) last 30 days is among the better trainer rates in the field. But 7-5800 in five starts tells a consistent recent story of failure to feature, and 127 lb from stall 4 — a draw that could drag her into an early pace battle — adds risk. Without an obvious catalyst for reversal, 16/1 is not the price this profile warrants.
Form figures: 7-5800
Winless in her last five starts, Time For Sandals nonetheless carries a rating of 113 and has experience of today's trip and conditions, making her a live threat from stall four at 127 lb — the risk is that her recent unplaced efforts suggest she'll need to find a sharp upturn in form.
Aspect Island is the bookmaker's miscalculation at 16/1. He is a three-year-old carrying 9-0 (126 lb) — significantly less than the majority of the field — and he draws stall 7, a clean middle-draw position on this course. A second last time out demonstrates he retains ability at this level despite five runs without a win, and Billy Loughnane is currently the form jockey in this race with a 24% strike rate over the last 30 days (34/141). His trainer James Owen is at 26% (27/102) — the joint-best trainer strike rate in the field alongside no one else in this race who comes close. The inconsistency (two unplaced efforts since that second) is a concern, and the first-time hood (p) could mean anything. But the age allowance, the weight concession and the red-hot connections are three separate arguments for the place at double-figure odds. In a race this competitive at a tricky course, 16/1 for a horse in the care of the best-striking trainer in the race is a value each-way proposition.
Form figures: -73002
Aspect Island has run over today's trip and going before, and his second last time out gives him a live each-way chance — though he's winless in his last five starts and that inconsistency, including two unplaced efforts since, gives pause from stall 7 off 126 lb.
Ryan Moore (19% SR, 10/53) on an A P O'Brien horse always demands respect — Moore alone can place a horse a length better than the handicapper expects. But O'Brien's current UK strike rate of 13% (11/82) last 30 days is modest, Brussels is rated OR 105, is winless in five starts, and 33/1 suggests the market has already priced in the lack of signals. The tp headgear is first-time cheekpieces, an unknown quantity. Oppose until evidence says otherwise.
Form figures: 2-6405
Last run: 31 Jul 2026
Winless in his last five starts, Brussels nonetheless shows a second in recent form and has run over today's trip and going before; carrying 126 lb from stall 11, he's capable of hitting the frame but must find more consistency to threaten at this level.
OR 103 is firmly in the lower tier of this field, Dickensian is beaten in his last two starts, and no signals fire from the automated model. A win three starts back keeps him from being a complete write-off, but stall 12 of 15 is awkward at Goodwood and 126 lb is not a light ask at that rating. Kevin Ryan prepares horses to run — but prepare to oppose at 28/1 without a clearer signal.
Form figures: 33-107
Beaten in his last two starts and ranked 11th of 15 on our figures, Dickensian is hard to fancy despite a win three starts back and a third four starts back; he has run over today's trip and going, but has plenty to find from stall 12 off 126 lb.
A win on return last time out is the one positive, but two consecutive sixth-place finishes before that sit in the form history and OR 98 places her firmly at the bottom of this field's meaningful contenders. Forty-one days off adds an unknown fitness element, and no signals fire from the model. At three years old she carries 8-11, the same as Spicy Marg, but without the same course form to lean on. Oppose.
Form figures: -44661
Two consecutive sixth-place finishes make Argentine Tango hard to fancy, ranked 13 of 15 on our figures, and 41 days off the track adds a fitness query; she has run over today's trip and going, and that winning return last time out at least brings some recent form to the table.
OR 111 and a course winner with a second two starts back — not a bad page for a three-year-old. The 8-11 weight is the lightest in the race, which is a genuine allowance from stall 15. But the latest seventh raises legitimate form concerns, and Goodwood's undulating five furlongs from the widest draw is a difficult ask. The course form and light weight are reasons to watch rather than oppose — but at 11/1 the risks outweigh the available signals.
Form figures: 1-8327
Spicy Marg showed her quality with a second two starts back and has run over today's trip and going, but her latest seventh raises questions about current form, and 123 lb is no light burden from stall 15.
LLaMa's four to follow on the ratings ladder. The highest in each row pulls the page-gold treatment.

Night Raider is the most evidence-supported horse in the race and gets the nod as the anchor: OR 112 joint-top, a steaming market, Burke at 23% and Doyle at 17% are hard to argue with. Back him, but keep the stake honest — stall 13 of 15 at Goodwood and a 45-day break are not trivial concerns in a fifteen-runner Group 2. The place insurance is Rumstar, who arrives in winning form from a perfectly positioned stall 3 and is only two pounds off the top rating; if Night Raider misses the break or gets stopped in traffic, Rumstar is the one already doing the right thing. For the each-way option, Aspect Island at 16/1 represents the bookmaker's failure to price the James Owen and Billy Loughnane combination, which is currently operating at 26% and 24% respectively — the best strikes rates in this race — and the three-year-old weight concession adds a concrete structural advantage. The speculative angle on Lamborghini Bf at 40/1 is for those who can stomach the absence of benchmark data in exchange for a horse arriving on three straight wins from an ideal low draw.
