Method
The money was already moving before I'd finished my morning coffee, and that's usually when I pay closest attention. Today's scan covered all declared runners through a four-stage filter pipeline: odds band fixed at 2.0–50.0 decimal (no odds-on, nothing beyond 49/1), field size trimmed to 6–14 runners to cut out the noise at both ends, and a lay-of-day collision check that removed a further 5 runners the system is actively laying today. Feature weights lean hardest on market movement at 1.6, with speed close behind at 1.5 and form at 1.2 — the market-move signal is the engine's sharpest edge, and I trust it when everything else aligns.
Today's universe
The day opened with 45 races declared and 401 runners across them. The odds filter cut that to 336, the field-size band brought it to 230, and after the lay-of-day collision drop we were left with 225 qualified runners to score. That's a healthy working universe — enough depth to find something real.
The shortlist
Six horses cleared the filters with composite scores worth talking about. Mighty Berkshire topped the board at 7.23/10, fractionally ahead of Quicken Away at 7.20/10, with Rumble Ruby and Return Of The Gods level-pegging at 7.09/10, Royal Instinct at 7.01/10, and Moulin Booj rounding things out at 6.94/10. The gap at the top is marginal — three points of composite separate first from sixth — so the tiebreaker always comes down to which feature is doing the heaviest lifting. Here, it's market move on Mighty Berkshire combined with a speed rating that genuinely stands apart from its field, and a trainer firing hot.
Why this horse
The read I keep coming back to is the market-move signal: a steamer where a strict majority of bookies shortened and none drifted. At the weight this engine puts on that feature — 1.6 — a clean +2.00 raw score is as loud as it gets, and it contributed +0.90 to the composite. That's not a rumour, that's organised money. Mighty Berkshire also carries the strongest speed figure on the shortlist in relative terms: an SR of 106 against a field mean of 81.8, a z-score of +1.66, contributing +0.70 to the composite. That's a horse operating at a different level to most of what it's facing today at Tramore.
The trainer angle stacks up too. Declan Queally is running at 30% over the last 30 days (6 from 20), flagged hot by the engine — that +0.34 contribution from trainer strike rate at a weight of 0.8 isn't the headline number, but it's honest confirmation. Form string of '700-41' shows the latest win is there in the decay-weighted average, and recent form adds +0.64 to the composite. Not blinding, but present.
The market implied win probability is 25.5% against the engine's estimated 36.7% — an edge of +28.5%. At 5/2 decimal 3.5, that's the kind of gap I act on. Two features are unavailable — class change is unrecognised for today's race, and draw-bias data isn't built yet — but neither absence would swing this away from selection given the strength of the signals that are live.
What worries me
Class change is listed as unavailable because today's race class is unrecognised by the engine — I can't tell you whether this is a step up, step down, or lateral move, and that matters over 2m5f in a hurdle handicap. The going record on good or adjacent is 1-from-3 with 1 placed — usable, not convincing. Quicken Away at 7.20/10 is breathing right down its neck on composite, and Rumble Ruby and Return Of The Gods are only 0.14 further back — this is a close score-off at the top, not a runaway. The market implied probability for Mighty Berkshire is already 25.5%, so some of this move is already priced in at 5/2. Draw data is absent across the board, which is a known gap in v1. The conviction is MEDIUM, and I'm treating it as such.
